How much data do you need for a week away?

A week of travel does not have one universal data allowance. Maps, video calls, streaming and hotspot use place very different demands on your budget.

GORIL.IO Travel & service guides

Use your own history

Open your phone’s mobile data statistics and identify the apps that use the most data. Even with hotel Wi-Fi, transfers, tickets and navigation need a connection outside. Account for video streaming and uploads separately. Fixed GB estimates for each app can be misleading because quality settings and background activity change consumption considerably.

Leave some breathing room

Download offline maps on Wi-Fi, limit photo backups and count the devices using your hotspot. On GORIL, distinguish total GB from a daily allowance; unused daily data may not roll over. If top-ups are available, compare their cost alongside the initial plan. Usage records can arrive late, so avoid planning to consume every remaining byte at the last minute.

TAKE IT WITH YOU

Your practical checklist

  • Check the period used by your device counter.
  • Reduce video and backup traffic.
  • Review top-up support before buying.

Make the next step yours.
